Concerning the deletion of blogs
Dear Tumblr staff,
I’m writing to display my concern about the post that has been floating around about you deleting blogs that have content of self-harm, suicidal behaviour, mental health (eating disorders). I understand where you all stand, but I must confess, and this is not only myself but many others, posting on Tumblr is a way we not only communicate to others like ourselves but a way to help each other.
You must have seen how (aside the few who are “pro” this and that) the majority of blogs of such content try their best to help each other, to try and stop them, or get them to seek help, never to glorify this pain. I have had several friends who after talking to those on tumblr seeked help and gotten better, 2 who decided not to commit suicide due to the help of 5 girls on this site, not including myself)
I pled, please do not delete these blogs, they help us in ways you may never understand. They allow us to express ourselves, to let us take off some steam when angry or upset, to give us a place to turn to when we can’t hold everything in. Without this site we would probably explode, taking ourselves to the limit and becoming even worse with our emotional breakdowns; Those with ED may continue doing what they do, maybe to a more damageable extent, those with depression may take it to the next step from depression to self-harm to actual suicide.
Now I don’t disagree with everything you’ve written, the idea of channelling tags such as “anorexia”, “bulimia”, “cutting” “depression”, “self-harm’, “thinspiration”,“proana”, “purging” to show the PSA’s is a great idea, but maybe not to the extent that you are thinking. Maybe with these tags have something seperate (at the top or side of the page or even a sperate link) displaying the PSA as a warning, but not take out the whole page concerning these tags.
Again, this is not just me who thinks these things, as I’m sure you are well aware, many people with these problems have written towards this proposal of yours on Tumblr itself, pleading that you don’t take away our blogs, our place of comfort, somewhere to go to. All saying how this site has helped them or others.
Please Tumblr staff, I’m speaking for all of us with these blogs, please don’t delete the one thing that keeps us sane and kept together.
Sincerely, Countingdowndays from Tumblr.

I just sent this e-mail to Tumblr staff not to long ago. I wrote it in response to the proposal of having our blogs deleted. I understand where they are coming from, but they have no clue how much this site means to many people, myself included.
Our little “community” help each other, we don’t “glorify” it, we know the pain of it and try our best to stop those who just started, to keep each other up when we are about to fall; it’s not fair that the minority of “pro this and that” is causing this mess and making many people lose their place of peace.
If you would like to e-mail them yourselves you can at policy@tumblr.com
Maybe they will re-consider. We can only hope.
